Logo Concepts for Moriarty Audiobook

OVERVIEW

The goal of this project was to capture the personality of Professor Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes' infamous archnemesis during the Victorian era, and translate it into a series of logos explorations for an Audible book cover.

Created and designed a range of logo concepts capturing Moriarty through multiple visual lenses from editorial and cinematic to gothic and minimal.

CHALLENGE

I was asked to design as many logo treatment options as possible (16 in total), using a single color for the audiobook cover on Audible, using modern fonts that are timeless enough to reflect the Victorian era.

I drew inspiration from a variety of styles, from gothic, minimal, and cinematic. In some of the logos, I incorporated abstract mathematical formulas that referenced the calculations Moriarty would scribble on paper, adding texture and complexity to the design. With others, I created something more restrained and minimal, focusing on memorable letterforms with a subtle nod to Victorian-era gothic, and stylistically hinting at blackletter typography from gothic fonts of the Victorian era, reinterpreted in a modern style.
